What is vertebral subluxation?
When emotional, chemical, or physical stress is experienced, your body's
inner wisdom strives to adapt and change so its defense mechanisms can
maintain a high level of resistance. However, when such stress overwhelms
your body's natural defenses, it can cause your spinal bones to shift. That
can result in an abnormal or "out of balance" structure. The bones are said
to be "subluxated". Any spinal imbalance, where one or more bones have shifted
out of position, will cause areas of the spinal column to work harder in order
to compensate for the area that is out of balance. Between the spinal bones,
called vertebrae, are nerves which transport messages from the brain to all organs,
tissues, and cells in the body. When the vertebrae are subluxated, the nerve passageway
is blocked, and the life energy flowing through the nerve can be choked off. This interferes
with your body's innate healing ability and lowers your resistance. If this condition is not
corrected, your organs and glands cannot function properly and this can create abnormal body
chemistry, disease, and accelerated deterioration - even early death! Vertebral subluxation is
commonly referred to as the "Silent Killer", because there are usually no early warning symptoms.

Absolutely yes! One of the most common misconceptions is that chiropractors are "back doctors".
That opinion is commonly fueled not only by the lay public, but by chiropractors who fail to educate
their patients about the damaging effects of subluxation. Essentially as more people understand how
chiropractic works by enhancing central nervous system function, and why it works, which is to decrease
crippling stress to the nervous system by reducing subluxation using specific chiropractic adjustments,
then more people will realize the life-changing improvements in their overall health, which is a quantum
leap in realizing your health potential.

Does your back really get "cracked"?
The use of proper terminology in all professions is a must in order to understand the dynamics of healing. Periodically during a chiropractic adjustment a small popping sound may be heard, which sounds similar to that produced by "popping" a knuckle. The source of this sound is actually a small pocket of nitrogenous gas being released when pressure comes off the joint space. The joint space is bathed in fluid and the gas bubble is released from there. All that being said, noise is really a non-issue. The powerful component is that at the moment of an adjustment, there is a dynamic release of nerve stress off the spinal cord, releasing positive healing chemicals and creating an optimal environment for healing throughout your body.

Does chiropractic help?
Yes, more than you think! Chiropractic assists the body in healing by removing interference that is decreasing vital nerve flow. When we have nerve interference to a organ, muscle, or cell, that body part will not function at 100%. We know anything less than 100% is unacceptable. Studies show that a weight of a dime can decrease nerve flow by as much as 60%. When we have decreased nerve flow, we have a lowered state of health. We want to help you raise your level of health.

What will happen if I stop coming to get regular adjustments?
We all have good habits and bad habits. The key is to recognize which bad habits you have and eliminate them immediately. In regard to health, good and bad habits may mean life or death! If a person decides to get his spine checked on a regular basis, he will have a better quality of life.
If I asked someone to stop brushing his teeth for days, let alone months, he would think that was absurd, because by not brushing regularly his teeth would eventually rot. Well, in the same vein, if people that have spinal subluxations, which create posture imbalance, allow the subluxations to linger without keeping their corrections maintained, the spine will go back to rotting (decaying). Anyone who started getting his spine corrected would only be making an incredibly wise health investment in keeping those corrections maintained. You can replace a decaying tooth: you can't replace a decaying spine and nervous system!

Why are x-rays taken in our chiropractic office?
X-rays are used to confirm what is originally found on the posture-specific exam. Once spinal shifts are detected, a more specific adjustment can be placed onto the spine thereby maximizing correction. Our goals in the office are primarily safety, and x-rays help in getting the maximum amount of correction with the least amount of force in the shortest amount of time.
X-rays will also help us to know not only where to adjust but where not to adjust. Suppose someone has a bone tumor or abnormal growth on the spine: these would be areas that could be detrimental to adjust. Overall the more tools we have to detect the problem, the more accurate our analysis and the best chance the patient has of experiencing optimal health and healing. We commit to each of you to continue to sharpen our skills and provide the highest quality chiropractic care on the planet!
